Hints + Tips - 2014 Visual Trends

Infographic: 2014 visual trends, November 2013

No matter the creative field, everyone has a view on trend forecasting. Some may think it's like trying to forecast the weather in Melbourne, others may follow them to the book and then there are those that take them on board but give them their own twist.

iStock has put together a list of their top 13 visual design trends for 2014. It's great to see an ongoing theme of originality, hand crafted, authenticity and diversity. I for one can't wait to see what 2014 holds.

Hints + Tips - How To Sew A Sports Bag

How To Sew A Sports Bag
Have you ever gone to a yoga class or the gym only to find someone else has the exact same sports bag as you? If so you might just love this tutorial over at Home Life on how to make your very own sports bag as much as I do. The thing I adore about this project is that you can add pockets to suit your sport of choice - a place store your swimming goggles or membership card.

Fearless Silent Disco At The Cullen

Now this is pretty cool... if you're looking for a unique dance experience this might just be for you. The well known Art Series Hotel, The Cullen will play host to Australia’s most unique and fearless dancing sensation Tommy Franklin this December.

The Cullen will be transformed with Tommy’s signature philosophy of freedom, smiles and ‘The Art of Living Fearlessly’. A very special, one-off event will include a silent disco sponsored by the Silent Disco King, showcasing Tommy in action, with his intoxicating ability to express himself without inhibition and bring joy through dance. Guests will have wireless headphones provided, for the chance to dance at a disco with a difference and get up close and personal with Tommy’s “salty rain”.

Tommy Franklin speaks openly about how he was able to beat drugs and alcohol dependency in favour of living an uplifting life by bringing joy to others. He does not believe that you need drugs and alcohol to have fun. The fearless silent disco will celebrate Tommy’s lust for life in the intimate setting of The Cullen Rooftop. Mash-ups, electro, dub-step and pop hits will be provided by the DJ and the alcohol-free event will include a bespoke sugar bar, with candy treats to keep guests dancing well into the night.

The Fearless Disco with Tommy Franklin will be held on Sunday the 15th of December from 5.30 till 8.30pm and tickets will be made available for purchase for those who book The Dancing Man Package for that evening. For reservations, please visit www.artserieshotels.com.au/tommy-franklin.

Introducing 3...

Introducing 3... Summer beauty must haves
Summer is here! It means more time outdoors, heading to the beach or the lake, meeting friends for BBQs and picnics, and enjoying everything that summer has to offer. Though that also means lots of sun, sand and salt which can wreak havoc on your skin and hair. Here are some of my favourite beauty must haves for Summer which protect, restore and add a bit more colour...

Australis Bronzing Powder
Get a natural summer glow with this light reflecting bronzing powder that provides a natural look and a soft silky feel. It comes in a cute case with a mirror and sponge so that you can apply on the go from the beach to the BBQ. An extra special reason why I love this product - it's not tested on animals! Available at Australis.

Le Tan Sports Gel 30+
There is nothing worse than putting on sunscreen only to hit the water had have it sting your eyes or become all slippery, so far all has been good with the Le Tan Sports Gel 30+. It's a non-greasy and sweat resistant clear gel sunscreen that is fast drying to leaves your skin non-slip straight after application. Plus it provides broad spectrum protection against  UVA and UVB rays. Available at Le Tan.

Kevin Murphy Born Again Masque
Salt, Sun and Chlorine can wreak havoc on your hair. One of the few products I use to protect, repair and replenish is Kevin Murphy's Born Again Masque. You only need a small amount of these product which you apply after washing and leave in for 10 - 15 minutes then rinse out. I however as advised by a hairdresser apply a small pea sized blob which I run through my freshly washed hair an leave in. Its smells great, doesn't weigh my hair down and considering I recently received over 5 compliments in one day for my hair - something must be right. Available at Kevin Murphy.
