Medium yet? Well you're about to, if you're into publishing articles online especially in the form of a blog then this is something you want to know about.
In short Medium is a blogging site, created by the guys who started
Twitter and Blogger, Evan
Williams and Biz Stone. It has been described by it's founders as “A place where you can find and share
knowledge, ideas, and stories - specifically, ones that need more than 140
characters and are not just for your friends.”
How does it work? It's pretty simple really, you write a blog, it then appears in one of the
site's many collections which could be something like Coffee Tales, Design + Startups or Look What I Made, or it could appear on the site’s homepage. Users can recommend posts, which is a nicer way of saying they vote on them. The number of recommendations a post receives impacts on where it is displayed on the site, bringing the cream to the top (or you'd hope).
I've had a look around the site, it's clean and neat in design and I've not had one moment where I've thought "what the!". One feature I'm loving is that you can make notes in relation to sections of a post. It's super user friendly and intuitive.
Currently it's in Beta stage and though you can login with your twitter account, only a few have been invited to create content for the site. For now the general user can only read and recommend articles.
I'm looking forward to it opening up to allow others to post, until then, happy reading!
