End of an Era - For Walls is Closing

It’s been an amazing year and a half for For Walls, they've hosted over 20 shows including many group shows which I've been delighted to of been a part of and also 'Drip' the recent duo exhibition I did with Megan Dell earlier this year. But sadly it’s now time for the For Walls Gallery, the brainchild of Bo Kitty, to close it’s doors.

To celebrate the end of an era, they are puling out all the stops and putting on a massive group show with the artists who throughout the time held solo shows in the space and a few other artists that they just couldn’t leave out. Artists include Pheelix, Ghetto Kitty, GUZ, HAHA, Glyph, Megan Dell , Sarah Beetson, Ollie Lucas, Matt Grant , Elizabeth Lugg, Thomas Delohery, Aubrey Rhodes, Heesco, Lani Siow, Ben Millar, Liddlewing and myself.

Come join in on Wednesday 5 October from 6pm - 8pm for the opening of the final hurrah. There with be live hip hop/funk & soul band Mose in the backroom afterwards and Dj’s Baron Von Rotton, Rintrah and Sizzle At No Era in the front bar.

I hope to see you all there and if you do see me come up and say hello!

Hints + Tips - How To Write A Press Release

Press releases can be a little daunting to compile, but when done right they can make a huge difference in the publicity of an event, exhibition or anything else. Arts Hub have a great post up at the moment about how to best write a press release.

If your in Australia and into the arts I recommend signing up to Arts Hub, it's been a great resource for me, I think it's still only $14 a month.

Works in Progress

Yesterday I received an email reminding me that I needed to drop of my artworks for the For Walls Closing Group Show by next Friday. I'll be honest I went into a bit of a blind panic as I had done no work for the show. I did quickly get my paint on and created the two works above, still yet to be titled and framed.

I hope to get another 4 works completed. So if you have any requests do let me know.

Bespoke - Crafting with a Conscience

Recently I wrote an article for Bespoke, a quarterly Australian Zine which is made by the handmade community, for the handmade community. It's all about something I'm very passionate about - Philanthropy. I wrote about how you can effectively support causes and organisations your passionate about through your art and craft.

Each issue of Bespoke is full to the brim of stories, interviews, features, tutorials, recipes, and all things creative. Issue 4 is no exception it features 'thrive' by Kylie Gartside, a fashion feature with 2 emerging Aussie designers, embroidery, a tutorial on how to put a zip into a dress or cushion, lovely clusters spring feature, budgeting for creatives and the feature article - Made with Love: Why consumers are calling for craft and how artists are answering them, plus much, much more!
If you've had the chance already to ready to read my article I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

I wish that before I embarked on this that I had taken my time and thought a little more about what I was doing. Which is I recommend to an considering going freelance visit the Freelance Folder website and especially read 7 Steps to Leaving Your Corporate Job.
