Introducing 3...

Some Easter facts all about eggs which I thought only fitting as it is Easter Sunday...
  • In medieval times a festival of egg throwing was held in church, during which the priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choirboys. It was then tossed from one choirboy to the next and whoever held the egg when the clock struck 12 was the winner and retained the egg.
  • To Egyptians, the egg was a sacred token of the renovation of mankind after the Flood.
  • The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.

Illustration Friday - Journey

Illustration Friday, is where a topic is posted each and every Friday, then participants have a week to come up with their own interpretation for the topic or find something they've already created that fits. For me it's all in the name of fun and it gets me thinking about topics that generally I wouldn't illustrate or think about. Even if I don't get the time to create something, I enjoy flicking through those that have.

The current topic is Journey and 'A Paddling We Will Go" I think is a perfect fit.

A Moment To Pause

The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by FORD, the second stop on the 2011 ASP World Title season, will welcome the world’s best surfers this April for its incredible 50-year anniversary. As I was flicking though my photos from past events that I either went to as a spectator or as a volunteer. I came across one of Serena Brooke. It was just before the womens final in 2005. She was up against Sofia Malkovich.

If you've ever been to Bells or to any surfing comp for that matter you know how crowded it can be. Right in the moment I took this shot, Serena is just doing her thing and it looks like it could be just a stretch before going out at a secret break. In fact it's not though the only thing that gives the fact away that she is preparing for a comp at all, is the rash vest over the wetsuit.

Hints + Tips - Choosing a Colour Platte

Colour is such an important part of good design and art. I find this so espically with my stencil works, I've had some pieces that have never seen the light of day simply because I didn't like the way the colours interacted with each other. Here are 3 useful colour palette and combination resources that I find useful when stuck on colour...

COLOURlovers is a place to check out a world of color, compare color palettes, comment on news and read color-related articles.
Color combinations
You will find more than 200 color combinations to help you in selecting colors for your website or band identity project.
It’s a tool to let designers fiddle around with colors and have a bit of fun whilst doing so.

"Let Go!" Exhibition of new work by Rachee Renee and Zsandor

There is a very exciting new exhibition about to come to At Large Gallery. Its's a duo exhibition featuring Rachee Renee and Zsandor. The new works that will be on show explore the personal journey of each artist into thir past, digging out cobwebs of forgotton life tales, and shedding them onto the canvas to make way for the new. With both artists stemming from a street art background, this exhibition mixes street art and fine art elements using aerosol, acrylic, oil, markers and a host of other mixed media.

I hope to have the time to make it to this exhibition, as I've admiration for both these artists and would love to check out some of their more recent works.

Introducing 3...

Yesterday I was talking to a friend about social networking and in conversation came up email newsletters. It was discussed how people have become so use to e-marketing that they may not even read the newsletter they've subscribed to, especially with all the emails that we do receive in this day and age. This has led me to thinking about which newsletters I subscribe to and which ones I read and don't read.

As part of this weeks introducing three I would like to introduce three email newsletters and updates that I do read!

Don't forget if you want to sign up to receive my monthly newsletter you can do so in the right hand side panel
