Curvy 7 Melbourne Launch

The Books!

Last Thursday was the Melbourne launch of CURVY 7 and the first ever MUSCLE UP at Magnation on Elizabeth Street in the CBD. The weather wasn't all that fab and wonderful but many came along on the night to get their hands on copies of the books, check out artworks, have a drink and mingle.

It was nice being asked to curate the Melbourne launch yet again with the people at Magnation. This time I also had some help from another Melbourne artist Jessica Singh which was lovely.

Gorgeous piece that Deb did just for the launch

For the launch street artist Deb came in and painted a fresh new piece on the Elizabeth Streets wall up on the third floor, which gave a real Melbourne touch to the launch. On display are works by Australian artists Jessica Singh, Nicole Tattersall (me), Rebecca Murphy, Tabitha Emma Patterson, Kelly Smith, Natalie Perkins and Kirbee Lawler.

The lovely Maria Rozalia Finna with one of my flamingos

A punter having a chat... I wonder what was being said?

As part of the launch at Magnation Jessica Singh and I created window installations featuring works by ourselves, Rebecca Murphy and Tabitha Emma Patterson. They are full of butterflies and flamingos and can be seen at both the Greville Street and Elizabeth Street stores.

The early crowd

The art and window displays will be up for a little while longer, but not forever so you'd best be quick to pop on in and check it all out. Plus while your there why not grab yourself a copy of both the books too.

Curvy 7 - Sydney Exhibition

Recently I gave you a sneak peak of the 5 pieces to be shown in the Galleries in Sydney for the launch of CURVY 7 and MUSCLE UP. Here they are and they can be seen in the flesh at the Incu Mens store in the Galeries, where should you choose to can purchase them to hang on your wall at home or give as gift. If you can't make it you can also check out cards and prints of these works on my Redbubble page.

This is the first time I've worked with wooden boxes, rather than on canvas or paper, and I very much enjoyed the process and outcome. I'm starting to use more mixed mediums with my stencil works, for these pieces I used watercolour, spray enamel and pencil, taking a slightly different approach than usual. As I haven't sprayed some of these stencils for a while, it was like visiting old friends!

Indian Muntjac

Humming Bird

Surfing Dreams (Spray 3 of 10)

Pink Flamingo (Spray 8 of 10)

The display which will run from 19 November to the 1 January transforms the Galeries into a literal gallery space of iconic artwork from a selection of Curvy 7’s artists.

Rabbit Tales

"Rabbit Tales" (Spray 1 of 10) - Nicole Tattersall

"Rabbit Tales" is the piece that I have up at the A3 Small Artworks Show at For Walls. You may remember the sneak peek for this picece from a few days ago. The opening for the show was just last night, but if you missed it you still have a few weeks to check it out.

The good news is that this piece has found a home. It had a little red dot on it before the official opening which I was delighted to hear about when I arrived at the gallery last night.

"Rabbit Tales" features Nickel my rabbit holding a book, the stencil is based on a photo that was taken especially for the purpose. When I got home after the opening I promptly gave her some strawberries (her favorite).

Join in the celebrations in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane to celebrate the launch of CURVY 7 - a limited edition book featuring the most exciting female graphic artists and illustrators in the world.

The 2010 CURVY publication has been co-curated by urban art heroine Fafi together with Sarah from Colette Paris and features art direction by Deanne Cheuk.

More than 80 female artists and illustrators are showcased including motionographer Irina Dakeva, photographer/illustrator Garance Doré and painter Sylvia Ji.

I was one of those chosen to be featured in the book and am pretty stoaked to be invited to curate the Melbourne launch again. Sadly though due to work commitments I can't go to Sydney. Though as part of a last minute addition I'll be sending up 5 pieces to be shown in the Gallerie in Sydney (sneak peaks coming soon!).

You may have heard that after close to a decade of uncovering the world's most creative female artists, CURVY is thrilled to unveil the launch of MUSCLE UP, a new limited edition collectible art book showing off the creative talents of the world's most impressive male visual artists.

Curated by Jeremyville, art directed by David Mardon and Jason Renel of The Shop, and published by CURVY – finally the world's most creative guys will get the chance to show the CURVY girls what they're made of.

30 of the most daring male artists are featured including Andy Mueller, Buff Monster, Dave Kinsey and Doze Green, plus local heroes Numskull, Anthony Lister, Ben Frost, Jonathan Zawada and many more.

Each publication is available in limited quantities and will be for sale at all the events for $40.

Hints + Tips - Useful Organisation NAVA

I was thinking a post about how swing tags or how to get the most out of a market stall, but I thought it was time to get a little serious and share with you a very useful and helpful organisation where as an artist in Australia you can get the most or the little as you choose out of it. It's the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) a national peak body for the visual arts, craft and design sector. The work through advocacy and service provision, to achieve a flourishing Australian visual arts sector and a more vibrant, distinctive and ethical cultural environment. No matter what your medium is NAVA is a website worth visiting, they offer useful advice on a number of topics from marketing to copyright. There is also the option to become a member which gives you a bunch of different benefits.

Yes, even I'm guilty of it, the way a sticker looks can be the most important thing, however at times we do need a hand in working out how to charge for things, or how to do our accounts. Which is why I thought it important to share with you this organisation just in case you didn't know about it yet.

RIP Andy Irons

This week has seen a great loss to the surfing community with the death of Andy Irons. Only on the weekend was I watching "Fair Bits" with a gag that Andy Irons plays apart in. At the age of 32 and with his wife Lyndie due to give birth in two weeks, it truly is a sad thing to happen.

Featured On Redbubble

What a lovely way to start the week, my piece "Rain Birds" is being featured on the homepage for Redbubble today!

Illustration Friday

Illustration Friday is a weekly illustration challenge and I wish I had more time so that I could participate in it more often.

For those new to Illustration Friday, a topic is posted every Friday and then participants have all week to come up with their own interpretation and are able to link it back to the Illustration Friday Website. For me it's all in the name of fun and it gets me thinking about topics that generally I wouldn't illustrate or think about. Even if I don't get the time to create something, I enjoy flicking through those that have.

The last one I was in was "Spooky" with an older illustration "Ahhh..."
