Infinite Nature - Beastman

Gorker Gallery and Element are proud to present Infinite Nature, an exhibition of new works and the first Melbourne solo exhibition by Sydney based artist Beastman. Influenced by the beauty and symbolism behind nature's repetitive geometric patterns and its eternal struggle against man-made adversities, Beastman's tightly detailed, symmetrical paintings depict a parallel world of hope and survival, inhabited by his scaly-skinned, beastlike yet beautiful and emotive characters. Gripped by fear, anger, stress, confusion and paranoia, these instantly recognisable and lovable creatures reflect human nature and the everyday burdens and struggles of life that mankind so easily and continuously finds itself lost in.

I have to agree with Gorker Gallery when they say that Beastman is one of the most distinctive and prolific emerging artists in Australia. He is the founder and editor of the online art publication [weAREtheIMAGEmakers], has exhibited extensively throughout Australia, as well as London, Berlin and New Zealand. He has curated and organised numerous art exhibitions and events, and has designed skateboards and graphics for various brands including Element, Folklore and Mingo Lamberti. With a recent profile on ABC's Rush TV and features in publications such as Empty, Tees, Deadbeat, Oyster, Spitpress, Australian Creatice and more... how can you argue? Also on top of that his an all round nice guy too!

As I'm all the way across the other side of the glob at the moment, I sadly miss this wonderful show that is in my home city! So please for me, go along and check it out.

Gorker Gallery

A Moment To Pause

Germany Here I Come

I'm off for 2 weeks! I'm leaving the Australian shores and heading to Europe for the first time. I'll be arriving in Germany were I'll spend a bit of time traveling about, duck into Netherlands for a bit of a sticky beak, head to France to see the Lourve and the Versi, then head back to Germany where I'll leave to come back home to Australia.

I've done a little bit of pre-planning which means that there will still be regular daily posts on my blog for you to read over your morning/afternoon tea.

I look forward to sharing the photos of my trip when I get back in just over 2 weeks time.

Article - Thread Den presents the North Melbourne 'Rockstar' Market

Recently on Three Thousand Marissa Shirbin gave me a honorary mention in her write up about the last North Melbourne Market. It only came to my attention the other night when I was having dinner at my cousin's and he told me about it.

For those who don't know of Three Thousand and live in Melbourne, it's a good place to start for when looking for things to do, see and hear.

So many nice surprises of late of people writing nice things about my artwork and stuff. Makes a girl like me all warm and fuzzy inside!

Hints + Tips - Free Resources for Background Patterns and Textures

I believe that every blogger, twitter fanatic or those who design anything on the web need to have a small collection of resources to help with the design of their page. Here are three sites that I've used in the past and recommend for locating the perfect background pattern to use. Some of these sites offer a bit more than jut backgrounds, they offer icons and free downloads too.

Curvy 7 Update

I'm sure I'm one of many artists still waiting to see if they got into Curvy 7. Just the other day on the Curvy World Facebook Page they announced that the 2010 CURVY book is being guest curated by French artist Fafi together with Colette Paris founder of Sarah Lerfel. They've been through the submissions and will be unveiling the final artist list shortly. Plus they promise that they have some other BIG announcements coming soon!

Fingers crossed and I wish every one who submitted to Curvy 7 the best of luck!

Face and Fringe Tapestry Unveiling

The other day marked the end of over 6 months of hard work for a good friend of mine Leanna. She has been working hard on a tapestry re-production of my stencil Face and Fringe. I've seen it grow from being just a few rows to quarter done, then through to it almost being completed.

Sadly due to my cold/flu I couldn't be there for the final cutting the other night. Though having of seen it almost completed a few nights before hand, it had me very excited.

The next steps for this piece is mount it onto a frame and to find a space to display it.

Above is the stencil used in live painting session for Art Jam a fundraiser for the Baby Tree Projects that was in October 2009, featuring the Face and Fringe stencil.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Today I gave in and went to see the doctor about this cold/flu thing I've had for over a few weeks now, and have been told to stay in bed and reduce my work load. Sadly I cannot be at work this week (yes, I truly do enjoy my job) and have had to put a hold on painting Union Lane, this weekend too. Though hopefully when I'm better I may still get a chance to paint it.

For now it's bed, magazines, cups of tea and plenty of rest.

New Stuff...

As promised I've added a few new items to my shop front on Made It, this time it is some lovely magnets featuring "Pink Fawn", "Tree Kangaroo" and "The Golden Goose 1".

Each magnet is 5.5 cm x 9cm with a semi gloss finish. I think they would make a perfect small gift or just to add something a little more colour to your fridge or noticeboard.

Hints + Tips - Where To Sell Artwork Online Part 5

Here we are, the end of our journey, this the fifth and last part of "Where To Sell Artwork Online" with the last of the three online options of places where to sell your artwork and craft items online.
This site allows artists and users within the community to “promote” the work of others, allowing the cream rise to the top.
If you wish to print your art to fabric, Spoonflower is for you. They sell a variety of printed fabrics for fashion designers to use in their creations.

Madeit is an Australian based website, it allows for buyers form all around the globe. Though they only feature Australian creatives and only handmade goods are allowed. I recently set up shop on Madeit and I'am loving it!

Ruby & Sage

My birthday was all the way back in April, however even though it's now July I've received two wonderful belated presents that were well worth the wait. One of which was a lovely bangle, similar to the one pictured above, made by the two girls at Ruby and Sage.

One half of Ruby and Sage is non other than fellow artist Megan Dell who I did the duo exhibition "Split Personalities" exhibition with earlier this year and many many more group shows since then!

Their Resin Jewelry is just divine so please do if you have a chance say hi to them at one of the many markets they go to (including Rose Street Artist Markets in Fitzroy), or check out their stuff online at
