Lights, Camera, Freeze!

Last Saturday in the name of art I froze! It was for a photoshoot that I was in for Wren, a talented Melbourne photographer.

Besides making my fingers and toes cold, I also painted and cut out 7 flamingos for the background as for the life of me I couldn't find any cost effective way of getting some plastic ones here in Melbourne.

Snap

Have you noticed yet? No! I've lately started to add some of my photographs to my Redbubble account for purchase as cards and prints. Photography isn't my forte but on the odd occasion I get what I think is a nice shot and think it's nice to share them with people. What do you think if the shots I've added?

Looooong Weekend

For those in Victoria, Australia last weekend was a long 3 day weekend. I spent a few days in South Gippsland staying with some friends, drinking wine, eating good food and shopping at markets.
It's always a good thing to get out of the city for awhile to help re-energize the creative mind, how can one not be inspired in a place like this? Plus our friend's place is covered wall-to-wall in paintings, illustrations, photographs and plenty of wondrous random items.

Hints + Tips - Where To Sell Artwork Online Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of "Where To Sell Artwork Online" featuring some of the many options that are available to artists and creative people of places to sell their goods online.

Dawanda.com
DaWanda is a marketplace where you can sell your goods in 3 languages (German, English and French). DaWanda also has great search tools but feels more like a store than a community.

Etsy.com
Etsy is a huge marketplace to sell traditional art and handmade goods. They harges a listing fee of $0.20 per item and a 3.5% sales fee. I use to sell goods on Etsy and was not a huge fan of trying to keep my prices which are in US$ in line with my AUS$ pricing, I also don't like how many breaches of blatant copyright was on the site and the cattiness that went along with it.

Folksy.com
This site is clean, very user friendly and is based in the UK. Folksy charges 20p to list an item and a 5% sales fee.

You - Just To Annoy You - Update

Last Tuesday night was the opening night for Just To Annoy You's exhibition "You", which celebrated the launch of their 10th edition. The exhibition, is a collaboration of artwork from prominent members of the Melbourne underground art community.

If you didn't get to make it and weren't be able to until it closes on Sunday 19 June, here are the three pieces that I have in the exhibition. Each piece features on the surface a stencil of mine and a wash, underneath is a whole pile of pieces of fabric and old paintings of mine and friends that I've sliced and diced, then handstiched together.

Pieces of a Tiger

Once My Jeans, Face and Fringe

Flight of a Hummingbird

Throughout the exhibition they have a badge machine available and performance of the spoken word sessions. All the Editions of "Just To Annoy You" are available to purchase at the venue too.

Hints + Tips - Where To Sell Artwork Online Part 1

Every so often I get asked "where can I sell my art online?", which is why over the next few weeks I'll be introducing a few of the many options that are available to artists and creative people. I personally like to keep it down to a few online places for myself, so that I can easily manage my inventory, pricing and transactions. Which is why I think it is good to look at the many options out there to pick the one that suits you best.

1000Markets.com
Listing on 1000 Markets is free and the sales fee is 5.5%+$0.50 for each transaction. 1000 Markets feels more like a store but it is clean and user friendly.

Artfire.com
Artfire gives artists basic use of their tools to sell online for free. They do offer an upgrade to access many more features for $15.95 monthly.

Bigcartel.com
Big Cartel is not a marketplace, but instead sells the tools to do it yourself. The price ranges from free to $20.00 monthly + transaction fees associated with using PayPal.

You - Just To Annoy You

Only just last weekend I dropped of my three pieces for Just To Annoy You's exhibition "You", which celebrates their 10th edition. The exhibition, is a collaboration of artwork from prominent members of the Melbourne underground art community. Showcasing the diverse talents of a group of artists, musing on themes of identity and individuality, while contributing to a greater whole, a central tenant of the Just To Annoy You philosophy.

The premise of ‘Just To Annoy You’ is to provide support for emerging artists and act as a creative outlet for the expression of ideas. Their aim is to supply a greater viewing opportunity for the wider community and the chance for interaction with original works. They hope that this exhibition will serve as an interactive, educational introduction into the thriving zine culture of Melbourne. As well as being an opportunity for all contributors and readers to mingle, get to know each other, have a drink and buy some original art work.

Throughout the exhibition they will have a badge machine available and performance of the spoken word sessions. All the Editions of the Zine will be available to purchase.

I hope to see you there at the Opening!
