Why oh why isn’t ‘Exposed! The Story of Swimwear’ coming to Melbourne? When I was younger I was quite the swimmer if I do say so myself and picking out a new pair of racing bathers from a catalogue was oh so much fun. I can still recall when I wanted a pair of magenta racing bathers by Speedo and then there was my first pair of racing bikini’s which had an aqua, blue and black smoky swirl pattern on them. Swimwear was a huge part of life and as a surfer now it still is, as I can imagine it is for many other Australians. Hence why I would love to see this exhibition.
‘Exposed! The Story of Swimwear’ highlights the designs and designers, past and present, of Australian swimwear design. Whilst exploring pop culture, the designers and personalities who influenced swimwear development and what swim wear has become in today’s society.
This exhibition is supported by Visions of Australia, an Australian Government Program supporting touring exhibitions by providing funding assistance for the development and touring of cultural material across Australia and is a Visions of Australia an Australian Government initiative.
