Towards and Against - Leons Samulis

"Towards and Against is about combining tone and colour to create a psychological mood. This exhibition covers themes of erosion, rejection and the violence of movement together with dislocation and isolation. An important and intentional factor is that every painting is a “scrape” painting. It is as if you are looking through the window of a fast moving train. Blurring has been a theme that I have been focusing on for the past few years. The process of scraping, wiping away and overlaying paint fascinates me as an artistic expression." - Leons Samulis, 2009
