Hints + Tips - Colour Scheme From A Photo

This is a quick and easy way to get a colour scheme and is very useful when requiring a colour to be used alongside an image. eg. on a flyer. To do this I’ve used Adobe Photoshop CS3.

1. Open your selected image in Photoshop

2. Crop to a small strip, you can use any part of the image you feel will give you the result your looking for. In this instance I was looking for some pinks.

3. Now select the Cut Out filter (Filters > Artistic > Cut Out)

4. Using the options on the right; adjust them until you get the amount of colours you are looking for. When you are done click ‘Ok’

5. You should now have a strip of chunky bits of colour.

6. Use the ‘Eyedropper Tool’ to select the first colour for your colour scheme. Open the colour up by double clicking on the swatch and take note of the values.

7. Repeat until you’ve all the colours you require.

8. Presto! Now you’ve your colour scheme.

Miss Mica - Bite Me

"My work is often a reflection of what is happening in my life. At the moment I am feeling especially angry. Maybe it is the economic doom looming in my consciousness. Surly seems a better adjective to express my current state. I want to growl at people for no other reason than just for the hell of it. I often have to exert my voice and hurt my ears just trying to be heard because I have a quiet voice and a shy nature sometimes. I find that my paintings speak louder and express more than I could ever verbally. So if you care you will listen. Enjoy and then BITE ME…giggle grrr"- Miss Mica

Lately I’ve received numerous emails from people and companies wanting to advertise their product on my blog. Some I’ve turned away because simply I do not endorse their product, then there is some that as much as I like their site/products I don’t want to look like one giant bill board.
However lately I’ve been toying with the idea of offering 5 - 7 spaces along the side of my blog for $10 - $15 a month and maybe one along the top for $25 - $30 a month.
Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think? Maybe you also sell space on your blog? Or maybe you don’t?

Image Spark

How do you keep track of all those images that inspire and push your creativity? Me? I’ve one folder on my desktop filled with images in no particular order, similar to my shoe box full of flyers and brochures that inspire me.
Recently I came across a very helpful tool that may be the end of this disorganised folder, it’s called Image Spark ( where you can collect, discover, share, tag and converge your images. It’s free to use and offers each new user 1GB of storage space and two moodboards to work with.
One feature I like is that you can broswe through other users mood boards and they can look at yours, however if your a more private person, you can also set it yours to private.

It landed on our shelves today (Wednesday 22 April) and promises to be jam packed full with a chat they had with Karen O and Marianne Faithfull, what kids think today about life, politics and bedtimes, what it was like watching the Berlin Wall fall down (and Barack Obama becoming president), some of Australia’s best illustrators and much much more of their bi-monthly goodness!

New Soap Old Bottle

New Soap Old Bottle is all about buying liquid soap in bulk and packaging it in old plastic soda, plastic water and glass beer bottles, in a bid to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill. Each bottle is cleaned, sanitized and processed for reuse as packaging for a variety of liquid soaps.

Loving this for several reasons...
1. The simple packaging
3. Tops are child safe
2. Reusing old plastic soda bottles, plastic water bottles and glass beer bottles

1. I would like to see them use brands that do not test on animals
2. Use products that are more environmentally friendly

This is a huge step in what could be something amazing for reducing waste and I wish New Soap Old Bottle all the best for the future! I’m interested to see where they take their idea in the coming months.
