‘Circle of Eagles’ - Amber Wallace

“Circle of Eagles is Wallis’ recent musing on time spent in Canada and Melbourne. Wallis is a collector of personal stories and rescued moments, threading them together in visual narratives. In this show triptychs, diptyches and large collages create a sense of narrative, there is a story being told. Imagery seems to ‘know each other’ and exude a comfortable closeness - confidantes perhaps.

Wallis’ work is deeply personal yet the abstract imagery and figurative forms allow the viewer to turn it into their own story Works are evocative of place, sex, loss and grief. Words and art are aching memories to be caught like a fish in a net.

Wallis’ loose, almost abstract renditions of figurative forms have featured in numerous publications in Australia, Canada and the USA. She has exhibited across Melbourne, Canberra, Canada and the USA. The artist completed a BA in Visual Photomedia at the Canberra School of Art and participated in an exchange program with Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Canada in 2002. Wallis completed her Master of Visual Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2008 and was the winner of the tenth Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2008. Selected group exhibitions include ‘Thank God We Died Together’, TCB Art Inc, 2008, ‘Con.ceit’08’, Corangamarah Art Prize finalist exhibition, 2008, ‘Autumn 2008’, Moving Galleries, Melbourne, 2008, ‘Swans & Ammo’ with Lizzie Hall, Utopian Slumps, 2007 and ‘sepia hell’ with Alana Di Giacomo, Ballan and Pannan Galleries, 2006.
