The Wonderkind Bazaar - Melbourne

The Wonderkind Bazaar is a market for RMIT students to display and sell works and items that they have produced while attending RMIT University.
It is run by students, for students, and will provide an excellent opportunity for those participating to receive valuable feedback about their works from their peers.

In addition, it gives students a chance to make some money from the hard work that they put in when producing the items that they do.

For those attending and participating alike, it promises to be an eye-opener to other students work, as well as a networking opportunity.

I just adore Stacy's pieces and wish I had the bank balance to allow for the purchase of all of her wonderful pieces. Though recently I did buy 2 pairs of earrings which I just can't wait to receive.
She currently has a Christmas Sale on to clear room for more wonderful items. The ones above are just $10 (US$) a pair and she has items under $25 that are just gorgeous.

Recently Victoria and Albert Museum in London bought the original artwork of the Rolling Stones lips and tongue logo at auction in the United States for $92,500

Designed by John Pasche in 1970, the pop art design and has been in continuous use by the Rolling Stones ever since. I once remember hearing Gene Simmons refer to it as one of the best early examples of branding an marketing a band through the use of a logo.

Interesting Or Not So Interesting With Aussie Surfer Brittani Nicholl

So far I've brought you a rock photographer and two talented street artists, this week I would like to introduce you all to one amazing talented young lady Brittani Nicholl. This amazing girl has not just over come illness with several trips to and from the hospital but is currently a rider for Billabong, Gallaz, Electric Visual and Home Life and Style, competing on the Australasian Pro Junior Series, in which she finished 9th at, in 2007.

Q. Hey hun, I'm going to start putting doing a weekly interview with interesting or not so interesting people for my blog, would love for you to be on of the many to come. Are you in for it? Do you think your interesting or not?
A. Sounds good, I'm in for it. And yes i think i'm an interesting individual.

Q. Being your from Queensland (Australia) what is the one must see thing that you would recommend to someone that they check out if they came to visit?
A. Well I'm not actually from QLD, I live just south of the boarder. But i think for internationals who want to connect with Australia they should go somewhere like Currumbin Wildlife Century or the Australian Zoo. As for anyone else visiting QLD, theme parks like dreamworld, movieworld and wet'n'wild are always good, and also the beaches are good cheap option.

Q. Now still on the same topic of location, I've not been, but I've heard it gets mighty warm up there. How do you stay cool during those really hot days?
A. Yes it does get pretty hot up here, sometimes gets pretty chilly in winter. But for those hot days, a surf or nice cold ice cream is what cools me down on a hot day.

Q. Being a competitive surfer which surfers (living or dead) do you admire the most and why? Which one would you like most to meet?
A. Kind of a hard question, even though I've already met her, I think It'd be Bethany Hamilton just because of the inspiration and determination she has to keep on following her dreams and the things she loves.

Q. You get to travel quite a bit, what has been one of your most bizarre experiences whilst traveling?
A. Uh I think being asked to jump out of a plane at 15000ft in NZ, I did it and I now know why skydivers get addicted, there's nothing that can compare.

Q. Of coarse I don't expect you to give away any secret spots, but which surf break do you just love to bits?
A. There are a few that I surf often but I think It'll always be my home break at Cabarita.

Q. You've suffered from crohns disease since you were 7, what impact has this made on your life? Also for those who don't know (like me) what is it?
A. Yes thats right, I've had Crohns for 11yrs now and it has had a massive impact on my life. Over the years I've been in and out of hospital over the years and have had some pretty rough times and in late 2007 i had major surgery and now currently have a temporary ileostomy bag.

Crohns Disease is a disease of the digestive system and can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. The symptoms that I experienced most where abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be visibly bloody), vomiting, and weight loss.

The disease occurs when the immune system attacks the gastrointestinal tract and for this reason is considered an autoimmune disease. This produces inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract and is why Crohn's disease is classified as an inflammatory bowel disease.

Unlike the other major types of inflammatory bowel disease, there is no known drug based or surgical cure for Crohn's disease.

Q. Anything new and exciting coming up for you? New projects?
A. I've just started working at Home Life & Style which is based on the shores of Pottsville Beach. It's a shop for people who enjoy art, travel, fashion, design, surf, skate & snow. I am also sponsored by this shop.
Other than that I'm just surfing and training and competing.

Q. Where can people find out more about you and is there any websites you wanna plug?
A. www.brittaninicholl.com

Q. Thank you Brit, have you enjoyed this short Q&A?
A. Thankyou Nicole. It was a pleasure to complete your Q&A.

Bec Winnel - General Pants Co.’s the Bubble

At its core, the bubble reflects General Pants Co.’s desire to share the best of young Australian talent with the world... well that's what they claim. Having of just taken a visit to vote for Bec Winnel I saw that there is no shortage of talent in this online public voting competition, I was blown away by the quality of work to vote for. It's not just open to artists either but film, photography and more.

Take some time to check it out for yourself and don't forget to vote! Preferably for a fellow artist of mine Bec Winnel but that's the beauty of online voting you've so many options to choose.

Don't Ban The Can

In the past few weeks a couple of people have asked about 'Don't Ban The Can' so I've done some research for you all.

On September 20 Don't Ban the Can will be held, it's a north side event raising awareness around the impact of the latest installment of anti graffiti laws in Melbourne. Through a healthy mix of excellent local music and an exhibition of approximately 200 prominent local and international artist's works, the team behind Don't Ban the Can support Melbourne's culture and understand the implications of criminalizing the city's prominent arts and cultural base. If you want to know more check out the website www.dontbanthecan.com.

Interesting Or Not So Interesting With Street Artist Ears

Last week I had Q&A with Rock Photographer Kate Griffin, this week I bring you Sydney based street artist Ears. Having of witnessed his style grow in leaps and bounds over the past year or so I couldn't resist but to send him a email and hit him up for an interview and get an overview of where street art is heading.

Q. As you know I've started doing a weekly interview with interesting or not so interesting people for my blog. Keen to be one of the many? Do you think you think you fit into the interesting or not so interesting category?
A. interesting

Q. Being based in Sydney is there one thing that you can recommend to any one visiting to check out, that may be a bit off the tourist route?
A. the courty in newtown. great pub.

Q. Since you've visited Melbourne, I could ask the age old question who is better Sydney or Melbourne, but I think you'll be a bit biased, so what's one thing you love about Melbourne and one thing you love about Sydney?
A. love brunswick street in melbz, and king street in newtown/sydney..

Q. In your works you use such an array of materials and mediums but what are your all time favorites?

A. brett whitely
Q. When stuck for motivation/inspiration what do you do to get the creative juices flowing?
A. look at mags/books/movies...

Q. What direction do you think street art in general is heading in?

I can only speak for sydney. i think the scene here is headed for big things. feels like a whole scene has just been born. and all sorts of artists are getting involved and coming out of the woodwork..

Q. Anything new and exciting coming up on the horizon for you? New projects?
A. doing a show at mori gallery, some live painting at various festivals in sept. the launch of a new gallery space i started with ohreally is this week on thurs! and im still hoping to get to newyork.. but not till next year.

Q. Cheers Ears for taking time to do this, have you enjoyed this short Q&A?
A. of course.
